PROBLEM.

Problem

Today in America, 1-out-3 kids play outisde everyday. In turn, studies find that inactive kids lack social cognition.

SOLUTION.

Slap-Modes

Whether at home or school, kids’ physical movements read by arm bands translate into playing a musical instrument. Just tap the interface to select your instrument and move. Dance to make music.

FEATURES.

Solution

SLAP MODES.

  • On board with scales
  • Learn songs in Solo Mode
  • Write songs in DJ Mode.
  • Create with a group in Jam Mode.
Band-Tech

BAND TECH.

An accelerometer measures body movement. The band’s chip translate the data into pitch & tempo. As you learn to coordinate your body movement, you learn how to make music. An app or the speaker receives all data from the Bluetooth connected slap band.

Customization

CUSTOMIZATION BASICS.

Choose from 6 personalized band colors. Tap the cap touch surface to select your instrument. LEDs change pattern to represent the instrument being played.

INSIGHTS.

Insights

What is missing on the market that kids age 6-12 need? They have limited tools for digital play. Kid technology just fills up their time. And kids avoid activities they do not perform well.

OPPORTUNITIES.

Opportunities

What do kids value? Socializing. Body coordinated play. Learning new activities.

DESIGN RESEARCH.

I ran hours of observational interviews with kids age 6-12. With prototypes in hand, I then validated my research through playtesting.

STORYBOARDING.

I created various user scenarios and then asked kids to select ones they related to most in order to determine features and spec requirements.

FORM STUDY.

I looked at current market of wearables for kids. I then made various prototype and conceptual renders to finalize the form.
