DESIGN PRINCIPLES.

Graceful composition

Hidden in plain sight

Plug & Play

PORTAL

Head & eye gaze controlled camera for video messaging.

InContext

Designed to give control of subjective view back to the observer during video conferencing.

INSTALLATION.

Given the prompt for an installation competition to “betray visitors perception”, I designed an interactive, two camera system. The first tracked head movement & the second mimicked that movement. With the users viewing the second, hidden camera, they were delighted with the challenge in uncovering the location through their movement.

FORM STUDY.

With the success and delight of the installation, I challenged the real-world context of the experience & discovered the need for more naturalized video conferencing. Studying how sight  works in the real world, the product’s form evolved into a housing that permits infinite spherical distance.

FEATURES

Portal_Pan

360 MOVEMENT.

Users control what the camera views with their eye glance. The mechanism robotically tilts & pans the small camera. When the real eyes move, the robot eye follows suit.

HARDWARE IX.

A motion sensor monitors eye movement. An interior speaker along side the camera captures the conversation. Finally, a magnetic latch holds the camera in place to ensure smooth tilting & panning.

Portal.BackOn

INPUT BASICS.

For functionality, touch the capacitive button and the device will turn on. An HDMI cable connection with any monitor or display will seamlessly transmit the video & sound data. Any USB-C cable will charge the device.
